That's it, the happy news has fallen: you are pregnant! If you are anxious to see your belly round, you would like to avoid the ailments of pregnancy. Constipation, back pain, circulation problems ... Although they are generally not serious, they are often annoying. This is particularly the case of nausea which often occurs during the first month and generally disappears in the 3rd or 4th month of pregnancy. But few pregnant women escape it: nearly four out of ten women suffer from nausea at the beginning of pregnancy. These occur mainly on waking, during the first three months. If this nausea is really strong, talk to your doctor: he can prescribe an appropriate treatment. Rest assured, there are some tips and habits to take to calm nausea without necessarily having to resort to medication. Our advice to mitigate them:
1 - Wait a bit before getting up
In the morning, the glycemic level is low, which favors the appearance of nausea. Eat some dried fruit or bread when you are in bed and wait a few tens of minutes before getting up.
2 - Eat small portions
Nausea is accentuated by too long a time between meals. It is thus preferable to eat less, but more often so as not to remain on an empty stomach or with an overfilled stomach. The objective is therefore to reduce the time between two meals. It is advisable to take three light meals, a snack and two snacks, one in the morning and one in the evening. This will help you better digest what you eat. Obviously, skipping a meal is a very bad idea.
3 - Beware of fatty and sweet foods!
If you have to split your meals, you must also monitor your diet. Dishes that are too fatty, too sweet and / or too spicy tend to cause nausea. Prefer lighter foods that are neither too hot nor too cold and that you will eat slowly. However, there is no point in eating foods you don't want. The main thing is to have fun!
4 - Avoid strong odors
When you are pregnant, you are particularly sensitive to odors. Perfume, dishes, cigarettes ... Some odors that did not bother you can be unbearable since you are expecting a child. It is best to avoid them as much as possible so as not to trigger nausea. Also ventilate the rooms of your house regularly to renew the air. Be aware that warm, confined areas tend to make nausea worse. Also, if it's the kitchen odors that put you off, have breakfast in bed. If you can't stand the smell of coffee, ask your companion to be understanding and quickly turn off the coffee maker after serving it. Similarly, if he likes scrambled eggs in the morning, but you don't like the smell, ask him to make an effort during your pregnancy. Finally, do not force yourself to eat dishes that do not tempt you or that usually tend to make you sick! Trust your desires and your taste buds!
5 - Drink without meals
It is essential to stay well hydrated during pregnancy. This is even more the case if you are subject to vomiting to avoid dehydration. However, it is best to drink in small sips throughout the day, and preferably without meals. Instead, drink water or soft drinks. A squeezed lemon can also calm nausea.
6 - Do not lie down after eating
If this is obvious, it is better to keep in mind that you should avoid lying down after meals. The food bowl risks staying longer in the stomach and therefore slowing digestion. However, no question of depriving yourself of a nap, you can doze in a semi-sitting position.
7 - grandmother's remedies
At the first sign of nausea, you can take a spoonful of honey. This will relieve you immediately, but beware honey is high in calories. Peppermint, thyme and lemon balm also calm nausea. It is therefore advisable to consume it in the form of herbal tea. Ginger also has anti-nausea properties. You can make ginger teas by grating fresh ginger, which you infuse in boiling water for 3 to 5 min. Note that there are also ginger chewing gums that are easy to slip into the handbag.
8 - Homeopathy
Homeopathy is allowed to pregnant women. If you have nausea, you can talk to your doctor, who can prescribe homeopathic granules.
9 - Rest!
Fatigue and stress can lead to nausea. So think of sparing yourself. Try to sleep well and rest.
